City Truck Driver

A City Truck Driver operates various types of large, heavy GVW trucks and motorized vehicles and actively participates in the collection of refuse and recyclables. Maintenance Repairer

DPW – Fleet Services Division. A Maintenance Repairer performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled duties in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of internal combustion equipment including power and construction equipment, trucks and automobiles. Minimum requirements include either A) high school graduate, completion of high school trades course preferred, and 2 years of recent paid work experience as it relates to the position; or B) completion of an accredited full-time program in auto mechanics in lieu of the experience listed in “A” above; or C) completion of an auto mechanic apprenticeship. Proof of a Commercial Driver’s License required upon application. Residency within City limits or 30-minute drive within 18 months of hire is required. Summer Student Employment

Attention college students residing in West Allis. The City of West Allis is recruiting for summer laborers to perform a variety of manual work for the Department of Public Works beginning on or about mid-May and ending on or about mid-August, with an hourly rate of $8.00 (first year students), $8.50 (second year returning students), $9.00 (third year returning students), and $9.50 (fourth year returning students), working 40 hours/week (weather permitting). NOTE: There is also a 23.5 hours/week position at the West Allis City Dump (116th and Morgan), Tuesday through Friday, 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. and Saturdays, 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Eligibility: Applicants must be currently attending college or enrolled in college for the Fall 2010 semester and possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license.

Employment Opportunities with the US Census Bureau

The U.S. Census Bureau has announced it will be hiring thousands of temporary census workers for 2010. Census takers are needed to update address lists and conduct interviews with community residents. Qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, speak English (individuals with bilingual skills in other languages are encouraged to apply), possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
