Building Inspection and Neighborhood Services

The Building Inspection and Neighborhood Services Department provides for the health, safety and welfare of the community through regulation of building and zoning codes.

As of August 1st, 2011, the City of West Allis has been delegated by the State of Wisconsin to review commercial building, HVAC and lighting plans of any size construction. You may now apply for plan review separately from the building permit or at the same time. To apply for plan review, you must fill out the plan review application and submit that with appropriate fees, plans and supporting documentation. In Mid-October 2010, the City of West Allis Department of Building Inspections & Neighborhood Services began mailing registration forms regarding the new Property Owner Registration Program. The City determined that this program was necessary to efficiently and expeditiously process property related issues. The program requires property owners to yearly register owner contact information and appoint a local operator. One through three family use properties are exempt if the owner residence is the property being registered. Direct questions regarding the Program to (414) 302-8407. Registrations for property sales recorded after the 2010 Property Owner Registration was sent will not be required to register until the 2011 Property Owner Registration mailing is sent.
