Building Inspection and Zoning |
The Electrical Inspection Division of the Department of Building Inspections and Zoning issues electrical permits and performs inspections associated with those permits. Except for a few minor exemptions, all electrical work done in the City of West Allis must be performed under an issued electrical permit. Installing communication and low voltage wiring and their devices or outlets in commercial occupancies requires an electrical permit. An electrical contractor or communication equipment contractor, licensed by the City of West Allis, may secure this permit. Although these installations are exempt from permitting requirements, all installations shall conform to current electrical code requirements. Please contact the Electrical Inspector at (414) 302-8400 regarding your questions about the Electrical Code. For West Allis Electrical Code requirements refer to the West Allis Revised Municipal Code, Chapter 14. The City of West Allis Electrical Code adopts, without amendments, the State of Wisconsin Department of Commerce (COMM) Chapter COMM 16. COMM 16 adopts the National Electrical Code (NEC) as amended by the State of Wisconsin. |
