The West Allis Fire Department conducts CPAT orientation and testing at its location of Fire Station 2, 2040 S. 67 Place, every other Friday from April 1 through October 31. CPAT orientation is offered at least eight weeks prior to testing with additional orientation sessions available during the eight weeks leading up to the test. The number of people we are able to test on each test date is limited, advance registration is required. [CPAT Orientation and Test Dates] The West Allis Fire Department shall perform CPAT in accordance with the IAFF/IAFC program description and instructions (IAFF,CPAT second edition). Candidates who successfully complete the CPAT test will receive one West Allis Fire Department site-validated certificate of completion. Additional copies of validated certificates will be available upon request for an additional fee. Candidates who fail the test may retest on the next available test date that a testing vacancy exists. Candidates may retest an unlimited number of times, but only once on each test date. It is strongly recommended that candidates who fail the CPAT prepare themselves physically for another attempt. Failure to pass the CPAT at the West Allis Fire Department's site does not preclude a candidate from testing at any other site or at any other time. Test results at the WAFD site are specific to that event only. A candidate who passes the WAFD test has no reasonable expectation that the testing result or certification will be accepted anywhere else or by any other agency. Agencies are welcome to accept a candidate's WAFD CPAT certificate at their own discretion and by their own authority. The West Allis Fire Department will confirm passing CPAT results to other agencies at the agency's request only. The West Allis Fire Department will not furnish test results in lieu of providing candidates with validated certificates. Registering for a CPAT TestTo register for a CPAT test, complete the online registration form, print a copy for yourself and click the email button to submit. Then mail a copy of your application and payment to the West Allis Fire Department, 7332 West National Avenue, West Allis, WI 53214. If your application and payment are not received within 10 days of making the registration your name will be removed from the schedule. The application form is available online or at the Fire Department Administrative Office, 7332 W. National Avenue. Current application fees are listed on the application document. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and in good physical health. Applicants can access the CPAT Orientation Guide and CPAT Preparation Guide, through this website. Waiver of LiabilityAll candidates must submit a waiver of liability prior to participating in an orientation session or taking the test. Candidates may not participate in CPAT orientation or testing without a valid waiver. Waiver forms will be available on the day of the test. Orientation and Time TrialsCPAT orientations are held every-other Friday. Orientation sessions and the eight-week preparatory period prior to testing may be waived, but are strongly recommended. At the orientation session, candidates will view a videotaped presentation of the test, observe a demonstration of each event, receive "Hands-on" familiarity with actual CPAT apparatus, and receive guidance on specific conditioning regimens and techniques to help them prepare for the test. Candidates will be offered the opportunity to do two practice “Time trial” tests in the 30-day period leading up to their test date. Time Trials are only offered to people who will be taking the CPAT test at the WAFD test site. See the test date schedule for orientation and test dates. Advanced registration for orientation sessions is necessary. CPAT Test VideoThis video will show you how the CPAT test is conducted.
Waiver of Orientation and Time TrialsAlthough the orientations and time trials set forth above must be treated as a mandatory condition for candidates taking the CPAT test, it is recognized that some candidates may believe that they are capable of passing the CPAT without attending the orientation and time trial sessions. It is therefore permissible for candidates to be excused from this requirement upon receipt of a written and signed waiver from the candidate acknowledging that this orientation and practice program was made available to all candidates on an equal basis and that the candidate voluntarily and knowingly waives the opportunity. [Waiver Form >>] CPAT TestThe CPAT test will be administered in accordance with the specifications and requirements of the IAFF/IAFC CPAT Program (IAFF, second edition). Candidates should arrive at the test site approximately 20 minutes prior to their assigned test time to allow for personal preparation (stretching, warm-up, etc.). You must present valid photo identification and sign a number of forms before taking the CPAT and verify that a valid waiver form is on file. A video detailing the CPAT test events and the failure points will be shown. It is your responsibility to ask questions if you do not understand any parts of the test events or procedures. At the conclusion of the CPAT you must sign a Rehabilitation form prior to leaving the test site. Post CPAT TestCandidates who have paid the registration fees and successfully complete the CPAT test will receive one original site-validated certificate. Original validated certificates will be available to participants two weeks after completion of the test at the West Allis Fire Department Administrative Offices, 7332 W. Greenfield Avenue. Additional certificates may be obtained via written application and for a processing fee provided on the application form. Candidates who fail to pass the CPAT test will be excused from the site without documentation. The purpose of the West Allis Fire Department's CPAT Program is to provide participants with an opportunity to successfully pass the CPAT test. Failures will not be documented, and files of failed attempts will not be maintained. However, a general file of candidates and their results will be maintained. Candidates may test as often as they wish, provided they proceed through the process described within the West Allis Fire Department's CPAT instructions. Inquiries from other agencies regarding failed CPAT attempts will not be provided.
