Dental SealantsDental sealants are provided at no charge to students in grade 2 and grade 3 who qualify and participate in the school based sealant programs. Nine West Allis/West Milwaukee schools currently have active sealant programs. Please call the West Allis Dental Hygienist at Health Department for more information. Screening and ConsultationTo help prevent the effect of Baby Bottle tooth decay and future childhood dental diseases, the Dental Hygienist is available to provide oral screenings, educational materials, consultations, and referrals to community resources. During the school year, children in selected grades are given blue dental health cards, which need to be filed out for school records. If this card is not returned to school within 30 days, a free dental screening is provided for the child during school hours. In addition, dental screenings may be requested by a teacher or other school personnel. Follow up information and/or referral letters will be sent home following these screenings. Oral cancer proves fatal for about 10,000 people each year. For information on prevention and early detection of oral cancer call the West Allis Dental Hygienist. Resources and ReferralsThe West Allis Dental Hygienist is available to provide information about community resources and referrals to local dental offices.
