Public Health Nurses and Community Health Screening Technicians provide health screenings, counseling, communicable disease control and referral to community resources in a variety settings for infants, children and adults.
- Blood Pressure Screening
Walk-in Blood Pressure Clinics are offered for West Allis/West Milwaukee residents Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the West Allis Health Department. Each clinic starts with a 15 - 20 minute presentation on a topic related to cardiovascular health. Following the presentation individuals have their blood pressure checked and receive education and information about their blood pressure. Blood Pressure Clinics for West Milwaukee residents are held on the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30am - 11:30am at the West Milwaukee Community Center.

Wisconsin Well Woman Program (WWWP)
The West Allis Health Department is part of a partnership of 13 suburban Milwaukee County Health Departments that have been given a grant to cover the cost of mammograms and pap smears for women, age 50 years and older, who lack insurance coverage and who meet income guidelines.

Child Health Assessment
Parents who have questions or concerns about their child's growth and development are encouraged to call for information and an appointment with a Public Health nurse. This program is available for parents of children up to 18 years of age. Health screenings available include height, weight, iron level, blood lead test and a developmental test. Information and resources on parenting, safety, nutrition and growth and development are also available. Call the Health Department for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Communicable Disease Control
All communicable diseases, such as hepatitis, measles, tuberculosis, and food or water borne illness must be reported to the Health Department. A Public Health Nurse will contact the individual, family and contacts and provide them with information and counseling about the disease. Public Health Nurses are available to answer questions that residents may have regarding a communicable disease. Fact sheets and pamphlets with information on specific diseases are also available on request.

Health Information and Referral Line
A Public Health Nurse is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to provide residents with information, consultation, and community referral for any health-related concerns or questions. Please call 302-8600 and ask to speak to a Public Health Nurse.

Home Visits and Consultations with a Public Health Nurse
Public Health Nurses are available to visit families with newborns and children with special health needs. Information on infant and child care, parenting and community resources is provided to parents. Public Health Nurses are available to visit our older residents to assess their health status and assist them with obtaining community resources to meet their needs. Flu immunizations are available to homebound residents each fall.

Immunization Clinics
Immunizations are very important to prevent certain communicable diseases and are required for day care and school. The Health Department offers immunizations to residents of all ages following the ACIP immunization schedule. An immunization walk-in clinic is available each Wednesday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and each Thursday from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Immunizations are available by appointment every second Monday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and every fourth Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Lead Poisoning Prevention
The Health Department offers a free lead inspection of your home, education about lead hazards, free blood-lead screening for children six months to six years, HEPA vacuum rental and more.

Pregnancy Testing
Free pregnancy screening tests are offered Monday through Friday at no cost. Women may bring in a urine sample between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. Results are available the same day after 4 pm Women are offered counseling and referrals to available resources as appropriate based on test results.

Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and hearing screenings are conducted routinely, in the public and private schools, for targeted grades on an annual basis to identify vision or hearing problems. Screening is also done by request of a parent or teacher. Parents will be notified of the screening results and are offered counseling and resources if medical follow-up is indicated.

Wellness-Wise Over 50 Wellness Program
A comprehensive health screening for persons age 50 and over is offered on the third Friday of each month by appointment only.
