Fresh Produce at the MarketThe West Allis Farmers Market is open from the first Saturday in May through the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 6:00 pm and on Saturdays from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We open later in the day to allow the farmers to bring only the freshest produce, picked that morning, to the market. Farmers may leave earlier if all produce has been sold. A wide range of produce arrives at the market throughout the year. The early season brings bedding plants, radishes, asparagus, and rhubarb. Strawberries and raspberries arrive in June as well as zucchini, squash, peas, snap beans. Corn arrives about a week after July 4 along with many other squashes and herb plants. The late season brings fresh apples and cider. Chickens and fresh eggs are always available. If you can't pick it yourself, the West Allis Farmers Market is your best bet. Market Place at the West Allis Farmer's MarketMarket Place is held from the first Sunday in May through the last Sunday in October, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. New for this year, Market Place will also be held on Fridays in the summer (through August 14, 2009) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The site of the West Allis Farmer's Market comes alive with vendors selling everything from antiques to tools, record albums to hats. You may even find the treasure that you have been looking for! Fees charged for vendors only. Come and shop! Stall RentalAll stalls are currently rented for the season. The Health Department keeps a waiting list for future stall rentals. Currently, there is a seven to ten year wait for stalls at the produce market. Stalls are available to rent for the Sunday Trash and Treasures Market. Contact the Health Department for more information. History of the Farmers MarketEstablished in approximately 1919, the West Allis Farmers Market has been a source of fine fresh produce for generations of families. Grandparents and parents have brought their children and relatives to shop at one of the largest, if not the oldest, established Farmers Markets in southeastern Wisconsin. One reason that the West Allis Market shines above the rest is that all the farmers at the market have to raise what they sell. If you want only the freshest produce grown in Wisconsin, shop the West Allis Farmers Market. |
