Senior Awareness, Focus on Help and Enrichment (SAFE Book)

The SAFE book is an information/referral tool for the West Allis community to utilize and discover what services are available for the elderly and others in the West Allis area.  It is available at the West Allis Senior Center, West Allis City Hall and the Library.

West Allis Senior Helpline (W.A.S.H)

The W.A.S.H. Line matches West Allis residents who need assistance with grass cutting, yard work or snow shoveling with students age 12 and over who wish to earn money by providing these services.  To learn more about the W.A.S.H. Line call 302-8720.  A 24 hour answering machine is available with information on how to register.

SeniorLAW

Appointments are available on the fourth Friday of each month from 9:15 am to 11:30 am unless otherwise noted.  The benefit specialist is a paralegal and can discuss the following: Title 19 (Medical Assistance and Medicaid), Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security, Food Stamps, Subsidized Housing, Homestead Tax Credit Problems, Medicare Part D, Prescription Drug Programs and certain other disability, Health Care and benefit problems.  Call 302-8700 for an appointment.

Income Tax Help

AARP Tax Assistance Program offers free help with income taxes by appointment from February until mid April. Call for an appointment beginning in mid-January.

Homestead Credit Help

Free help with the Homestead Credit forms is offered by appointment on Fridays. For more information, call the Senior Center at 302-8700.

Other Agencies in the Senior Center Building

West Central Interfaith Resource Center

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 am - noon and Wednesdays, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Visiting, shopping, transportation, and telephone visiting is provided through volunteer services. Resources are available for other help. Call 302-8711 for more information.

Milwaukee County Senior Meal Program

Milwaukee County Senior Meal Program is operated by the Milwaukee County Department on Aging. The Meal Program's hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please call the Senior Meal Program Supervisor at 302-8703, or stop in between 9:30am and 10:30am for more information.

Stockbox

This Hunger Task Force program is dedicated to helping low-income seniors by providing healthy foods, each month, to deserving participants. To qualify for a stockbox, you must live in Milwaukee County, be at least 60 years old and have an income that meets qualifications. Call 211 for the location nearest to you.
