National Night Out is an annual Crime Prevention event held each July, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The City of West Allis has been involved in National Night Out since 1989 and has won numerous national awards for its participation.
National Night Out is designed to promote crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit, show support for your local Police Department and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and will not tolerate crime.
On National Night Out, neighborhoods have large block parties, which may include pizza parties, cookouts, parades, face painting, and walks against crime. An officer and McGruff, the Crime Dog, visit each neighborhood and distribute baseball cards and badges. Positive programs such as National Night Out help us maintain our active Neighborhood Watch program.
It's easy to participate in National Night Out - all that is required is that you turn on your outside lights, lock your doors and go out and meet your neighbors. National Night Out in West Allis is the last Monday in July. Check the City Calendar listing for this year's dates.
