Sex Offender Notification Program

The Sensitive Crimes Unit registers convicted sex offenders living in West Allis who are on probation or parole. Investigators from the Sensitive Crimes Unit work closely with agents from the Department of Corrections to monitors sex offenders and determine when a community notification meeting will be held.

The State of Wisconsin enacted the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law to monitor and track people convicted of sex crimes and to provide access to sex offender information for police, victims and the general public. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections maintains an online Sex Offender Registry that can be searched by name or ZIP code.

Second Chance Program

The Second Chance Program targets first time juvenile offenders who have been arrested and issued a municipal citation. First time juvenile offenders have the option of going to court, paying their fine, or attending this program.

These juveniles are given a second chance by attending a two-hour educational program at the Police Department. During the class the participants take a look at their individual value system with respect to the law. They also look at their personal relationships as they relate to concern for others and their property.

The West Allis Police Department also has a Second Chance Program for alcohol violations. This is a new program implemented in cooperation with Rogers Hospital. Rogers Hospital provides the counselor and the program curriculum, and their alumni association helps to finance the program. A juvenile citation is dismissed upon completion of the program. Each participant is assessed a fee of fifty dollars. Proceeds from the program are used to further crime prevention efforts in the city.
