The Traffic Bureau is responsible for traffic crash investigations, traffic control and enforcement, traffic safety, school crossing guards, parking enforcement and special events, such as parades, runs, walks, etc. Traffic Investigators investigate all traffic crashes involving fatalities and critical injuries. They also conduct follow up investigations on hit & run crashes, and crashes that could not be closed by the Patrol Division. Providing accurate crash investigations is a very important obligation of the West Allis Police Department. In the event a crash occurs, finding the cause is always taken very seriously. Finding contributing circumstances to one crash, may furnish effective counter measures to prevent another similar crash from occurring.
The Traffic Bureau is also responsible for warrant processing, summons and subpoena service, prisoner transports, extraditions and hearings, and the processing of Circuit Court Traffic cases.
A Lieutenant commands the Traffic Bureau. Additional personnel assigned to the Traffic Bureau include three Traffic Investigators, two Warrant Officers, a downtown court Liaison Officer, and two Parking Control Officers.
